"Ride Out Victoriously!"
(This was from my letter to my congregation sent out on 22 April 2026)
Take a moment to look at Psalm 45. The first half of that Psalm is about the coronation of the king of Israel, and the second half has to do with his queen. As good Bible readers that means we quickly recognize this as a Messianic Psalm. It’s a Psalm that looks through the historical king of Israel at that moment to the promised greater Son of David, whose “increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this” (Isaiah 9:7).
And we know we’re on the right track because Psalm 45:6-7 is quoted in Hebrews 1 as evidence that Jesus is higher than the angels: “But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions”” (Hebrews 1:8-9).
Therefore, I find Psalm 45:4a a very important prayer focus for us. It goes like this: “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness” (Psalm 45:4a). I have been so taken up with this verse that I wrote it out on the whiteboard in my library and have had our elders use it in prayer this last Sunday, and the men in the leadership class used it in prayer last night. Therefore, I commend this verse to you for prayer as you think of the church in Iran, Iraq, Israel, Uganda, South Africa, Japan, Ukraine, Indonesia, Bolivia, in these United States of America, and beyond. Jesus, “in your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness” (Psalm 45:4a).
- Please use it daily for the next two weeks. “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.”
- When you hear of persecutions of God’s people, pray it. “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.”
- When you think of missionaries, pray this on their behalf. “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.”
- As you think of our congregation, take up this request. “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.”
- While you consider our Christian Education classes, make this your appeal. “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.”
- Add this to your prayers for our morning and evening worship services and Care Groups. “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.”
- At those times you’re concerned about the future – yours, our nation’s, your family’s, or whoever’s – bring out this verse and employ it. “In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.”
“In your majesty ride out victoriously
for the cause of
truth
and meekness
and righteousness”
(Psalm 45:4a).
