Review of Five Children's Book

All five books in the photo are from The Good Book Company. The various illustrations and drawings are pleasant to the eyes and fitting. If a reader feels that purported pictures of Jesus violate the Second Commandment, know that there are some in each book. Below are my very short, grandfatherly reviews.

"The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross" is a very simple, short presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It begins with the goodness of creation, then the fall, fallen human history, the redemption and finally, glory! Ideal for reading with kids and grandkids. The illustrations are appropriate - even the inscription on the High Priest's turban is accurate. All in all, a nice book for snuggle time with the kids.

"It's Good to be a Boy" happily celebrates the God-made gift of being a boy and a man. It wraps it in the Creation/Redemption story at its heart. But the author also draws in a history of godly men who used their abilities to make things, guard, serve, and lead. From Joseph, David, and Ezra to William Wilberforce, Eric Liddell and Francis Grimke. "High five, praise God, and shout for joy because it's good to be a boy!" From cover to cover it is a fine book to sit with the young fellows in your life, and read, talk, and give thanks.

"It's Good to be a Girl. How fun it is to cuddle your little daughters and granddaughters around and read. And this small, glossy work would be just right. The whole point is in the title, "It's Good to be a Girl." Drawing from Bible women like Eve, Miriam and Abigail, all the way to Harriet Tubman, Esther Ahn Kim, and Fanny Crosby, lots of reasons to "thank our God, rejoice and twirl, because it's good to be a girl!" The illustrations and Biblical message work together to help you help the girls in your life rejoice that God made them a girl.

Both "J is for Jesus" and "C is for Christian" are written by Alistair Begg. These are delightful book for devotions and family worship with your kids. "J is for Jesus" is all about who and what Jesus is. These 26 devotions (following the alphabet) are short enough for the wigglers and wrigglers. Each one is based on a Bible verse. And the pictures are easy on the eyes and attractive. "C is for Christian" follows the same 26 devotion format and develops who and what we are as God's children. Both works are solid and just right.
