"Praise the LORD!" (Psalm 111) - 17 August 2025
Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them. Almighty God, we pray for your Church worldwide, including Open Door Baptist, Robinson St. Baptist, King’s Cross PCA and Redeemer PCA, as well as this congregation. Grant us to be courageously committed to you; supply all that is lacking, whether valor, assets, good leaders, laborers or open doors. For the shepherds of your church, help them to maintain true doctrine and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and may be truly holy, all for the good of your Church and your glory. And for those in the ministry who are atheists, agnostics, predators, pedophiles, wolves in sheep’s clothing, come and convert them, and where necessary, remove them and prosecute them.
Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. Father, who by your almighty and everywhere present power, upholds – as it were by your hand – heaven, earth, and all creatures, and so govern them that herbs and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, food and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, come not by chance but by your fatherly hand. Help us to be patient when things go against us, thankful when things go well, and for the future have good confidence in you, our faithful God and Father, that nothing in creation will separate us from your love. Cause us to be convinced that all creatures are so completely in your hand that without your will they can neither move nor be moved (Heidelberg Catechism 27-28).
He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy; they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. We ask you to strengthen those who are fighting against the carnage, inhumanity and evil in their lands. May all nations come to bow the knee to the Lord Jesus, and goodwill and wellbeing abound in all places. Further, we cry out to you to have mercy on our own nation! Direct the people and the rulers that we may be a nation of hard-working, fair-minded, well-educated, morally-solid people and a hope-giving example to all the countries in our world.
He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name! The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need: please behold, visit and relieve these (…). Mercifully look upon them; comfort them with a sense of your goodness. Preserve them from the temptations of the enemy and give them patience under their affliction. In your good time restore them to health, and enable them to lead the residue of their life in your fear and to your glory; and grant that finally they may dwell with you in life everlasting. Finally, deploy your saving love to these who have never turned to Christ (…).[1] And now, in the name of Jesus and the power of your Spirit, we pray as we’ve been taught, Our Father…
