"The LORD Reigns" - 29 June 2025

 

“The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.” Since righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people, we earnestly and heartily pray to you, O reigning God, for our country. Reflecting on the 5th through 10th Commandment, we pray that we and our fellow residents in this country will honor fathers and mothers and all legitimate authorities, instead of affronting aging parents, teachers, police officers or magistrates. We pray that we and the people of this country would turn away from murder in its various shapes and sophistications and will pursue all lawful endeavors to preserve life. We pray that we and the occupants of this land would renounce proud sexual immorality and embrace chastity and life-long monogamy. We pray that we and the inhabitants of our nation would cast aside all ways and means that unjustly hinder our own or our neighbor’s wealth and outward estate and would rather engage in legitimate practices of advancing one another’s lawful prosperity. We pray that we and the folks within our boarders would discard false witness bearing and would become a people who promote truth and one another’s good name. We pray that all would stop hungering and hankering after neighbors’ wives, husbands, property and prosperity, and all will grow in charitableness and full contentment with our condition.

“The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring. Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty!” We implore you who are enthroned in the heavens, to exercise your special providence toward your Church in this place, at Free Will Baptist, Kingsview, Minneha, and Oakhills Free Will Baptist Churches; and throughout the world. May civil righteousness and goodness prevail in all lands so that your church may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way; so that the Gospel may speed ahead and be honored.

“Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O LORD, forevermore.” We are very grateful for our country, and the liberties you have bequeathed to us. We are thankful for the various salutary advantages you have entrusted to us. And most of all, we are deeply appreciative of the gifts of your Son and your Spirit in whom we have new life, new standing, and new hope. We pray for friends and family who have never repented of their sins and believed in Christ; and we entreat your restoring, reviving mercies for those who once claimed to be Christians but now are no longer walking with your Son (…). We beseech your continued provision for this congregation as we look for suitable sisters to take up leadership roles in Women’s Ministry and as we move closer to VBS. And Lord, we ask for your strength, comfort, mending, and support for those who are sick, ailing, dark, dreary, unsettled, uncertain, grieving or groaning (…).[1] And now we pray together in the power of the Spirit as Jesus taught, saying, “Our Father…”

  Years ago, in a situation long ago, in a different space and time continuum, I wrote these prayers. They were for me, as a pastor, in the midst of disappointment and feeling of deep defeat. "Counterfeit Kingdom" by Pivec and Geivett. A Review.

  Some fifteen years ago he sat in my church study. He was the minister of a large charismatic church in town and had come to invite me to join a new reforming “movement,” the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). I had never heard of this movement, but he claimed it had apostles and prophets whom God had raised up to reignite the church and restore America to her Christian roots. Since those days I have heard more and more about the NAR, and began to notice how some prominent church leaders, pastors, and a few politicians, who are   aligned with the NAR and are coming into influence in our civil government. "For Your Church and World..." - 7 September 2025

  Lord God, we come to intercede for your Church and world. We ask you to strengthen this congregation that in doing all things without complaining and disputing, we may become increasingly blameless, pure in quality, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation (Philippians 2:14-15). Be pleased to make us even more harmonious and to become more clearly a sign of grace to our fractured and fragmented world. Also, add to this church such as are being saved; and add to us in such a way as will mirror the new heavens and new earth, reflecting the new Jerusalem in which will dwell people from every tribe, tongue, nationality, and economic strata, gathered around your throne exalting you and hearing you say, “ Behold, I am making all things new ” (Revelation 21:1-5)!
