"Our Daughters and the Transgender Craze" by Gary Yagel. A Review
Yagel's approach is very gracious. On the one hand, he is clear that "trans is not homosexual" (7). He is not hot-headed, nor homophobic in his presentation. This is not the work of some old-time Fundamentalist reactionary! On the other hand, his graciousness surfaces as he guides parents and friends to be those who always interact with our deeply loved young women and daughters to cultivate grace in every gender identity discussion.
The author is clear that there are many streams flowing into this gender-dysphoria pool. Without being conspiratorial, he shows how there are social and institutional aspects behind the sudden rise of transgender identification among adolescent girls. But he keeps his head on straight as he identifies what we can do in our homes and churches.
"Our Daughters and the Transgender Craze" is a handy, affordable booklet that has discussion questions at the end of each topic, thus making it ideal for discussion groups, and family reading. This is a work that will be useful for churches, parents, Sunday School teachers, youth ministers and more. I highly recommend the booklet.
