"Lord Jesus, You Are..." 24 April 2022

A Prayer Shaped by Revelation 1

Lord Jesus, you are the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. You love us and have freed us from our sins by your blood and made us a kingdom, priests to your God and Father, and so to you be glory and dominion forever and ever. Lead us in your liberty and bring us to find that in your service we have true freedom. O Lord, hear our prayer.

You are the Alpha and the Omega, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty; you are our sovereign to whom we owe all allegiance, to whom we are rightly obliged to give all of our loyalty no matter what the whisperings of our society entice us with, or the shouting voices of our world demand of us. May we live, advance, raise families, serve, evangelize, pay taxes, vote, grow old, always and ever remembering that though the world around us disputes your Lordship and reign, yet the day is coming when at your name every knee will bow, whether in heaven, on earth, or under the earth, and every tongue shall come to confess that you, Jesus Christ, are Lord, to the glory of God the Father. O Lord, hear our prayer.

In making us a kingdom and priests, you have restored us to Adam’s and Eve’s vocation to have dominion over creation, to be fruitful, multiplying, filling the earth, and subduing it. Guide us and aid us in going and making disciples of all nations. May we be an active part of many being baptized into the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; and help us to teach them all that you have commanded us; for you are always with us, to the end of the age. We pray for those who play at our playground, who will attend our VBS in July, whom we will engage with in Carnegie in June, and who visit us on Sundays. May they hear the Gospel, turn, and acknowledge you as their Lord and Savior. Please add to this congregation such as are being saved. O Lord, hear our prayer.

You are the first and the last, and the living one. You died, and behold you are alive forevermore, and you have the keys of Death and Hades; and so, we have no reason to fear. You even told us to fear not! Therefore, please remove all worldly anxieties and faithless fears, and grant us greater confidence in you that you are subduing all of your and our enemies, and to face death and dying with never-ending conviction that the last enemy you will triumph over is death. O Lord, hear our prayer.
