"Arise, O LORD" - 10 June 2018
Arise, O
LORD, let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you
(Numbers 10.35). We pray for your Church throughout the nations, for Carey
Heights Baptist Church, Central Baptist, Cherokee Hills Baptist, and Chisolm
Heights Baptist Church, that you would kindly smile upon your people and
prosper our work that is being done for your honor, for Christ’s kingdom and
according to your will.
Be pleased to
govern our General Assembly this coming week. There are poor decisions we need
to correct; good decisions we need to make; wholesome discussions we need to
have. As the PCA is often the flagship for many other Reformed denominations,
pilot us safely through troubled waters and treacherous shoals that we may sail
forward rightly.
We bless you
for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but, above
all, for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord
Jesus Christ, for the means of grace and the hope of glory. Give us, we pray,
such a sense of all your mercies that our hearts may be sincerely thankful, so
that we would declare your praise not only with our lips, but in our lives, by
giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and
righteousness all our days. Assist us in truth, worship and Christian love that
we may become better makers-of-disciples-of-Christ, and add to our number such
as are being saved.
We call upon
you to be with those going to Carnegie at the end of June, and with Cedar Creek
Methodist Church: fill us with your Holy Spirit; guide us along your ways of
truth and righteousness; deliver us from the evil one. Let your favor be upon
us, and establish the work of our hands upon us, yes, establish the work of our
hands (Psalm 90.17).
We call out
to you the names of folks, friends and family we know who need to repent of
their sins and believe in Christ, as well as those who have strayed away and
need to be restored, and those whose faith is shaken…Have mercy on them.
O Lord God, we
call upon you for our nation, that you would lead our leaders and govern our
governors so that they would walk wisely, defeat evil, and advance true justice
for all: born and unborn; displaced and disabled; marginalized and moneyed. Thank
you – O our God – thank you for the recent Supreme Court decision. May sanity
and sensibility continue to gain the upper hand!
We pray for OKC
and the surrounding townships, that you would steer our mayor and city council
in ways that would be honorable and beneficial for all the citizens.
Hear us, O
Lord, as we petition your leadership for the nations of this world. Please
bring under control the warring factions and chaotic turmoil plaguing many
countries; restore peace and wholesome order. Give aid, and arouse real
recovery, for all of those afflicted by volcanic activity and earthquakes.
We intercede
on behalf of those who are troubled and beleaguered by physical, financial,
emotional and spiritual distresses…Hold them firmly in your care,
reestablishing some sturdy sense of order and health and peace of mind.
Finally, we
offer up to you our thanksgiving for all your generosity to us….Amen.
