"O God of Our Fathers" - 30 October 2016

O God of our fathers, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Isaiah, Peter, Paul, Justin Martyr, Polycarp, Irenaeus, Cyril, Anselm, Thomas, Wycliffe, Tyndale, Luther, Calvin, Bucer, and Cranmer: O God of our fathers, thank you for the good and godly heritage handed on to us, which we have received, and in which we rejoice!

We cry out to you, our Father, to heal our hurting and hammered world: especially Aleppo and Syria; Mosul; Pakistan; Yemen; Venezuela; the Philippines; North Korea; South Africa; Thailand; and Turkey, just to name a few.

We implore you, O God, to help our country and citizens as we near the elections, but also as we live beyond them.

O great Physician, we intercede on behalf of those who are approaching or undergoing physical, mental, emotional, parental, chronological and vocational hardships…fill them with your peace that passes all understanding, guarding their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Lord of Life, we beseech your watchful care for your Church all around this world, for this congregation, and for churches in the OKC area: Dayspring Church of Christ; Deer Creek Church of Christ; Del City Christian Church; Del City Community Church; Deliverance and Praise Church; and Douglas Blvd United Methodist Church: May we be all about Scripture alone that leads us to Christ alone by whom we are justified by grace alone that is received by faith alone, all to the glory of God alone! Where any of your churches have weakened and waned in their confidence in these Reformation gems and where any of your churches have sold their birthright for a mess of red-stew with Esau – be pleased to restore, rebuild, reframe and revive. And where any of your churches are endeavoring to hold these, maintain them, teach and proclaim them, cherish and live them – fortify their resolve, and grant them to flourish in them.

Merciful Lord, enliven and save our faithless family members, friends, coworkers, allies and enemies….And reclaim and restore those who once walked with us in the house of God and have since walked away….

Hear our prayer, O Lord; and let our cry come unto you. Amen.
