(The artist was Pierre Edouard Frere, painted (oil on panel) in 1857, titled "The Evening Prayer")

The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. The LORD preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever” (Psalm 145:17-21).

You who are righteous in all your ways and kind in all your works, we pray for Louisville KY, Portland, OR; Belarus; Myanmar; and other places where there is social conflict, destruction and bloodshed (…). Bring forth sensible order where there is senseless disorder, justice where there is injustice; and right where there is wrong.  O Lord, hear our prayer.

You who are near to all who call on you, to all who call on you in truth, we cry out for our time and our moment. Guide us as a nation, but more as a church in a nation that grows increasingly vain and stagers with cultural vertigo. May our soberminded lives and fellowship be a light shining in the darkness (…). O Lord, hear our prayer.

You who fulfill the desire of those who fear you, and who hears their cries and saves them; protect and restore those who are crying out to you in their need (…).O Lord, hear our prayer.

You who preserve all who love you but will destroy the wicked, cause the sexual, physical, emotional, and financial abusers to be broken and come to see clearly their devilish actions for what they are, and then to repent and make genuine restitution. And cause those who are battered, beaten, bruised and bankrupt to find you lifting their heads, strengthening their hearts, and bringing them substantive deliverance. We pray especially for these situations (…). O Lord, hear our prayer.
