Praying the Ten Commandments - 2026
(One Way to Pray the Ten Commandments for Our Nation)
Since righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34), and because our nation is celebrating its 250th Anniversary soon, we earnestly and heartily pray to you, O reigning God, for our country.Reflecting on the Ten Commandments, your law of liberty, we pray first and foremost (Preface) that all in this land would come to know that you are the life-giving, liberty-giving God, and that all would be set free and made alive in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
We also pray (1st) that all of us who are citizens and inhabitants of this land would come to know, trust and have you as the only true and living God.
That we would (2nd) avoid all idolatry and worship you properly, from the State house to our house.
That we would (3rd) treat your name with fear and reverence and honor your Word and works.
We also implore you (4th) to work on our whole population so that on the Sabbath day we would come to happily spend our time in your worship, both publicly and privately, rest from routine employments, serve you and others, and so anticipate the eternal Sabbath.
Further, we pray (5th) that we and our fellow residents in this country will come to honor fathers and mothers and all legitimate authorities, instead of disrespecting aging parents, teachers, police officers or magistrates.
We pray (6th) that we and the people of this country will turn away from murder in its various shapes and sophistications and will pursue all lawful endeavors to preserve life.
We pray (7th) that we and the occupants of this land will renounce proud sexual immorality and embrace chastity and life-long monogamy between one man and one woman.
We pray (8th) that we and the inhabitants of our nation would cast aside all ways and means that unjustly hinder our own or our neighbor’s wealth and outward estate and would rather engage in legitimate practices of advancing one another’s lawful prosperity.
We pray (9th) that we and the folks within our boarders would discard false witness bearing and would become a people who promote truth and one another’s good name.
We pray (10th) that all will stop hungering and hankering after neighbors’ wives, husbands, property and prosperity, and all will grow in charitableness and full contentment with our condition.
And since, good Lord (Gospel Hope), we know that no mere mortal is able to keep your law perfectly since the fall, we pray for all in our borders, that out of your mere mercy, you would reconcile us to yourself and deliver us from sin and from the punishment for sin, by the Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the eternal Son of God, in whom God became man and bore the penalty for sin himself.
And now we pray in the power of the Spirit as Jesus taught us, saying, Our Father…
