"Worthy Are You, Our Lord and God" - 15 February 2026

 

Unlike Marduk, Ba’al, Asherah and the gods of the nations, when you made humankind, you said: “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so” (Genesis 1:29-30). Truly, LORD God, you made us not because you needed us. You made us not because you were lonely and lacked love. You made us not because you needed us to scratch some itch or stroke your ego. You made us because you are love and goodness, and so desired to give and lavish that love and goodness on us! Therefore, we adore and worship you: “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created” (Revelation 4:11).

For the peace and security of all the nations of this world, including Iceland, India, Indonesia. But also for Canada and Tumbler Ridge, we pray to you Lord. Console the weeping, secure the shattered, lift up the heart broken. For the safety and godly direction of the President of these United States, our Legislators, and judiciary, we pray to you Lord. For the wellbeing and achievement of the State of Oklahoma, our counties, cities and townships, we pray to you Lord. For fitting and seasonable weather and rain, the abundance of the fruits of the earth, and the speedy end of the flu season, we pray to you Lord. O God, hear our prayer; give ear to the words of our mouth.

For the strength and recovery of the infirm or sick or suffering ones, and the stability and sustenance of the older, we pray to you Lord (…). For the deliverance of the poor, oppressed, unemployed, destitute, and prisoners, we pray to you Lord. O God, hear our prayer; give ear to the words of our mouth.

For the shalom and goodness of God to flood our lives and keep us steady and sturdy when we are anxious and fearful, we pray to you Lord. For the salvation of those who are still dead in their trespasses and sins, and for the rescue of those who have forgotten their savior, we pray to you Lord (…). O God, hear our prayer; give ear to the words of our mouth.

For the church throughout the earth, this congregation, North MacArthur Church of Christ, Northeast, Northwest, and Oak Crest Church of Christ; that we may grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord, that we may fill out in faithfulness of life and doctrine, we pray to you Lord. O God, hear our prayer; give ear to the words of our mouth.

All we ask in union with Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord and Savior. And now we join together in the power of the Spirit to pray as he taught us, saying, Our Father…

  Years ago, in a situation long ago, in a different space and time continuum, I wrote these prayers. They were for me, as a pastor, in the midst of disappointment and feeling of deep defeat. "Counterfeit Kingdom" by Pivec and Geivett. A Review.

  Some fifteen years ago he sat in my church study. He was the minister of a large charismatic church in town and had come to invite me to join a new reforming “movement,” the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). I had never heard of this movement, but he claimed it had apostles and prophets whom God had raised up to reignite the church and restore America to her Christian roots. Since those days I have heard more and more about the NAR, and began to notice how some prominent church leaders, pastors, and a few politicians, who are   aligned with the NAR and are coming into influence in our civil government.   Lord God, we come to intercede for your Church and world. We ask you to strengthen this congregation that in doing all things without complaining and disputing, we may become increasingly blameless, pure in quality, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation (Philippians 2:14-15). Be pleased to make us even more harmonious and to become more clearly a sign of grace to our fractured and fragmented world. Also, add to this church such as are being saved; and add to us in such a way as will mirror the new heavens and new earth, reflecting the new Jerusalem in which will dwell people from every tribe, tongue, nationality, and economic strata, gathered around your throne exalting you and hearing you say, “ Behold, I am making all things new ” (Revelation 21:1-5)!
